Last week I compared Porsches to Porsches, this week I am going to compare Porsches to some of it closest competitors. I am not going to list them all but I will discuss what I perceive as some of Porsche's closest competitors around the same price point. I am going to compare and categorize these cars on how most people purchase their car - price point. I'm assuming that most people purchase their cars based on a budget. Now if you are extremely wealthy, "a 1%-er", you can go buy whatever you want and money doesn't really matter; however, for most of us money/budget does matter and our car choices are driven by that factor. Therefore, this article will be based on a similar price comparison. However, as you will see, most of the models that are around the same price will also have other similarities (HP, 0-60, times, etc.). Since most of us don't want to read a 30 minute article, I am going to break this article up into 6 separate articles - they will be drafted as follows: Cars around the $300,000.00 price point (GT2RS, Speedster and its competitors). Cars around the $200,000.00 price point (GT3RS and its competitors). Cars around the $150,000.00 price point and its competitors (GT3, GTS, etc.) Cars around the $100,000.00 price point (911s, GT4s, etc.) Cars around the $50,000.00 - 85,000.00 (new, used, etc.) Cars below $50,000.00 (used market) Let's get right into it. Cars that cost around $300,000.00 As you can see above, each category is worth 20 points and the points are listed in (parenthesis). Let's discuss the scoring and each category: Price - Since all of them are around the same price point, I gave them all a "10" out of 20. At the 300G's price range, that is quite expensive for a car. If the car's MSRP was above "325" than it lost one point. Horsepower (HP) - if the car produces more than 625 HP it received a 20. If it is below that, I reduced one point for every 50 HP (for example, 575-625 would receive a 19, and 575-525 an 18, etc.). 0-60 times - if the car does under 3.3 seconds 0-60, it is fast and received a perfect score of 20. The Speedster was the only car not to receive a 20 with a 3.8 second time. Nurburgring time - this seems to be the ultimate test of any vehicle (speed, handling, braking and overall performance). Scoring was based on the recorded times and the following format: 6:49 and below - 20 6:59 - 6:50 - 19 7:09 - 7:00 - 5. Cool factor - totally subjective, I get it, but this is based on my perception of the car. 6. Por4mance Score - add all 5 categories for the total score. Would you score any of these cars any different? I'm not a huge fan of the appearance of the Mercedes AMG-GT - I think its hood is too long and just looks awkward to me. I know there are others, such as Jeremy Clarkson, who love this car but appearance wise, I'm not a fan. As for the Ford GT, we know its fast and beautiful but I had to guess as to how fast it would lap the Nurburgring, so I gave it a modest score. Which one would you pick?
